Duke's Harris Nuclear Plant Shut Down for Repairs
LCG, May 17, 2013--Duke Energy removed the Harris Nuclear Plant from service Wednesday evening after indications of a flaw in the metal of the reactor vessel head were discovered. The Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) stated on May 15 that evaluations showed a 0.26-inch flaw that exhibited characteristics of primary water stress corrosion cracking.

DP&L Plans to Retire Six Coal Units
LCG, May 16, 2013--Dayton Power & Light (DP&L), a subsidiary of AES Corp., announced earlier this week plans to retire six, coal-fired power generating units by June 2015. The retirements, totaling nearly 600 MW of electric generating capacity, are driven by existing and expected environmental regulations, including the Mercury and Air Toxics Standards (MATS).

Construction Commences on 235-MW Wind Project in Oklahoma
LCG, July 13, 2012--Construction started on the 235-MW Chisholm View Wind Project in Oklahoma. The Alabama Public Service Commission approved the 20-year, power purchase agreement (PPA) between Alabama Power, a Southern Company subsidiary, and TradeWind Energy, the original project developer, in September 2011. The project is one of the first major wind projects to export power to the Southeast.
The Chisholm View Wind Project, located on a 45,000-acre site in north central Oklahoma, will include 140, 1.68-MW wind turbines provided by GE.
The first turbine base was erected last week, and the first turbine is scheduled to be fully assembled next month. The project is expected to be completed by year-end.
